Koi Asian Cuisine & Lounge is a chinese restaurant in Evanston, Illinois. It is listed at 624 Davis St, Evanston, IL 60201, which places it among the local businesses of Evanston that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under asian fusion restaurant, brunch restaurant, asian restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Evanston; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Illinois are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 11 am–9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Koi in Evanston absolutely blew me away with the service we received yesterday. Koi is a pan-Asian restaurant that, surprisingly, pulls off dishes from multiple regions not just competently, but excellently. Their sushi and maki are always fresh and delicious. Their har gow, shumai, and Peking duck are as good as anything at the best dim sum spots in Chinatown, like Triple Crown or Cai. Their Szechuan dishes are also top-notch, which makes sense, since Koi’s owners were associated with Peppercorn’s Kitchen, the outstanding Szechuan restaurant that used to be next door before it closed. When Peppercorn’s shut down, Koi absorbed many of the employees, including chefs, along with much of the menu. We ordered some of our favorites: shrimp har gow, shumai, and Snakehead Fish with Pickled Vegetable Soup. They also make another Snakehead Fish soup with green peppercorns that we love. One tip: ask for chili oil with the har gow and a red vinegar sauce with the shumai. If you do not, they tend to default to hoisin, presumably because they assume American diners are more familiar with it than the more traditional Chinese pairings. The vinegar, especially, is a perfect counterpoint to the r

Real delicious authentic Chinese food with menu for authentic Chinese and American Chinese dishes. Four of us ordered fish dishes which is more than what we needed and that had generous portions but all dishes were so delicious that we ate everything lol. We got 酸汤肥牛 a sauerkraut beef dish, 干锅包菜, stir fried cabbage, 干锅豆腐, stir fried tofu with potatoes, 小炒肉, green peppers with pork, and 三杯鸡 a chicken dish. My personal fav is stir fried cabbage and the tofu. They were so well seasoned with fresh ingredients. Chicken was a little too savory. But after all really friendly service, they even gave 杏仁酥 and fortune cookies as dessert for free. Def a 5/5!!

Went in on a weekday for lunch. They have two different menus, one for Chinese cuisine and the other for Japanese cuisine. I opted for Chinese and ordered 3 dishes. The wonton in chili oil was sweet, which was not how it’s supposed to taste. The Xiao Long Bao was definitely premade or maybe from frozen. I’ve eaten a lot of Xiao Long Baos over the years, and I was really disappointed with this one. The Dandan noodle was too salty. Overall was unfortunately a disappointing experience. To me, the taste was far off from authentic Chinese. I can’t speak on the Japanese cuisine because I didn’t try any, so perhaps it might be better.

Tried the assorted clay pot for the first time and it was amazing! Everything tasted homemade and the soup was especially wonderful. The other dishes we ordered were also great. Really enjoyed the meal!
